Founder Chairperson/ Principal

Dr. Shamim Matin Chowdhury Dr. Shamim Matin Chowdhury is the founder Chairperson of "Beautiful Mind".

She is a doctor by profession having her MBBS from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in the year 1976. She then specialized in General Psychiatry from "Bangladesh College of Physician and Surgeons" and had further post graduation in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from U.K. "Institute of Psychiatry Maudsley and Institute of child Health U.K."

Dr. Chowdhury worked for the Government of Bangladesh under the Ministry of Health in various hospitals in Dhaka such as in post Graduate Hospital (BSSMU), Dhaka Medical College, Sir Salimullah Medical College in the Psychiatry Department. She also worked as Senior Consultant in Pabna Mental Hospital.

She also worked as a Director and Chief consultant of Drug Addiction Treatment Center in Dhaka under the Ministry of Home.

During her service she served in Lien with the UNDCP in 1995 as National Treatment Consultant wherein she drew up the training Manual for doctors, nurses, care takers and health worker on "Treatment of Drug Addiction".

Dr. Chowdhury also served in Lien as Technical Support consultant in UNODC for one year, as well as served as WHO Programmed Officer in Drug Awareness Project and also is a fellow of WHO in Drug Abuse Treatment.

Dr. Shamim Chowdhury attended and participated in various workshops, Training Programmes both in the country and outside of the country. She herself organized various seminars, workshops on Child Mental health in Dhaka and Chittagong. She has a number of publications in national journals. Dr. Shamim Chowdhury is also involved in various social works. She is the Chairperson of Special Olympic Bangladesh and she is involved with Soroptimist International Club of Dhaka, Zonta International Club of women and Lions International Club etc.

Vice Principal

Ms. Mamtaz Sultana Mamtaz Sultana has been working in this organization since 2010; currently she is holding the position of Vice Principal here. She has Masters Degree in English Literature as well as Master of Education Degree in Administration from Institution of Education and Research of Dhaka University. She obtained distinction marks in both her M.A and M.Ed degrees.

Though she has been serving in Beautiful Mind - a Special Center for Autistic and Mentally Challenged Children, as an administrator for a couple of years; she has got twenty four years of experience as an Main-Stream Educationist in her credit.

She started her career as an English teacher in Bangladesh Embassy School in Riyadh, KSA and at Dhaka International School, Dhaka. Later, she hold the position of the Principal at the same institution(DIS) for three years.

Mamtaz Sultana then joined in the Senior Management at Scholastica Pvt. Ltd., one of the esteemed English Medium schools in Bangladesh and served there as an Academic Supervisor till she retired in 2008.

As a special educationist at Beautiful Mind she also completed the six months course for disabled persons namely "Community Initiatives in Inclusion" in Mumbai. It is an internationally recognized course conducted by ADAPT (Able Disabled People Together) Mumbai, supported by the Center for International Child Health and Development and funded by the Women's Council, UK. Apart from these she completed various professional short in-service courses during her career.

She dreamt to serve this unique group of children from the beginning. So after getting the rare opportunity to serve them she feels herself very fortunate and is enjoying her job whole heartedly.

Senior Administrative Officer

Ms. Shalina Parveen Shalina Parveen, a career Administrator, was born in 1969 at Dhaka in Bangladesh. She had her elementary and middle school education in Chittagong at Dr. Khastogir Govt. Girls High School respectively. She also studied at Barura Adarsha Women's College, Comilla at higher secondary level. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Science in Political Science (honours) from University of Chittagong . She obtained her Masters of Social Science major in Political Science from University of Dhaka.

She started her career as a Coordinator from 1995 to 2004 in an NGO "AWDC" (Association for the Welfare of disadvantage children) in Bangladesh, sponsored by "Partage" of France.

In May 2004, Shalina Parveen joined "Beautiful Mind" - a Special Center for Autistic and Mentally Challenged Children, as Administrative officer from 2004 to 2009. She is a presently holding the post of Senior Administrative Officer in the same organization. She is also Director of Special Olympics Bangladesh scince 2011.

She attended specialized long and short term training courses in the following programmes:

  • Training on "Community Initiative in inclusion CII" Course in Mumbai, India.
  • Training on "Autism and Behaviour Management".
  • "Skills Training Course on Speech Therapy".
  • "Special Education with Emphasis on Inclusive Education".
  • Workshop on "Autism: Quality of Life Issues Development of Communication and Behavioural Competence".
  • "Parenting and family Development".
  • Workshop on "Introduction to Applied behavior analysis".
